  • King McMillan

Founder and Director, Fight For Kids Foundation

King McMillan, the founder and executive director of the Fight for Kids Foundation is a member of the BIPOC community. He grew up in a housing project in a poor Brooklyn neighborhood with parents who were battling addiction. Through community support and connection, he was able to avoid getting deeply involved in gang violence, drug abuse, and the other illegal activities.

King experienced firsthand the impact of being exposed to both negative and positive influences in his childhood and adolescence. Fortunately, he was able to see that there were better options for achieving success when he was asked by a mother from the local church to be a 'Big Brother' to her son.

He began taking the youth to sporting events, a boxing gym, and martial arts classes. It was this experience of responsibility, leadership and providing a positive influence that changed the course of his life. It inspired him to offer classes and mentorship for kids in Vermont where he now resides.

King credits his introduction to martial arts over 20 years ago, along with his spirituality, as important factors that gave him direction and kept him strong in the face of adversity. He won a world title in Karate, as well as multiple championship titles in MMA and Boxing, including winning the Vermont Golden Gloves several times. He was one of the youngest people to be inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

His journey has continued to include working with vulnerable youth and young adults in various environments. King’s experience includes being a mentor, instructor, and youth coordinator. He is also a father and owner of multiple local businesses. He is continuing his education in the fields of team building, life coaching, and finance in order to bring new and relevant information to the programs he offers.
